The 19th Malaysia International Food & Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB2018) continues to provide a platform and venue for food and beverage industry players from around the world. With growing international demand for halal foods, MIFB2018 will feature a dedicated Halal Food section for exhibits from across the country. This will serve as a Halal market platform, catering to the needs of halal food producers, traders, and business leaders seeking sourcing and partnerships to expand their businesses.
According to the Global Islamic Economy Report (Dinar Standard 2016/17), global Muslim spending on food and beverages reached $1.2 trillion in 2015, representing 17% of total spending in the sector. Taking into account population growth and rising incomes, Muslim spending on food and beverages is projected to reach $1.9 trillion by 2021. This represents an estimated average annual growth rate of 9%, representing 18.3% of total global spending in the sector.
Halal Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin, said Malaysia's halal exports grew 7.1 percent to RM42.18 billion in 2016. Exports to China totaled RM5.4 billion, making it the largest export market in 2016. Halal exports are expected to grow by 5 to 6 percent this year.
