Engagement with the ASEAN Secretariat

ASEAN Economic Community(AEC)Since its conception, significant efforts have been made to develop ASEAN instruments, paving the way for harmonization. The ASEAN Secretariat plays a central role in coordinating trade facilitation efforts in the region.

Director of the Market Integration Department, Ho Kwong Chung, and Assistant Director of the Standards and Compliance Division of the Market Integration Department, Isha GhaniC.Erna, met with the Executive Committee of the ASEAN Restaurant Alliance to discuss their shared concerns on regional trade facilitation.

As ASEAN moves towards the ASEAN Economic Community2025As ASEAN moves towards the goals of the 2020 Blueprint, the ASEAN Secretariat agreed that ASEAN needs to strengthen cooperation with the private sector. One of the key areas that needs to be addressed is the different stages of development of ASEAN member states, which necessitates capacity-building activities.

The ASEAN Restaurant Alliance recently held a meeting with the ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality of Prepared Foods Working Group(ACCSQ PFPWG)The ASEAN Catering Alliance elaborated on the issues of concern to the industry and receivedPFPWGRecognition of industry feedback. Recently publishedPFPWGThe new work on harmonizing nutrition labeling is particularly welcome.

In a spirit of mutual support, the ASEAN Secretariat has made a proposal to the ASEAN Restaurant Alliance, taking into account the needs of ASEAN Member States, particularly the identified priority areas for technical assistance in the prepared food sector.

The ASEAN Secretariat encourages the ASEAN Restaurant Alliance to continue itsPFPWGMaintain contact and share the positive developments in ASEAN with all member states. The ASEAN Secretariat further proposed thatPFPWGA workshop will be held during the meeting. This will allow more time for discussions to address issues of concern to both the public and private sectors.

In addition to engagement at the regional level, engagement at the national level is crucial to building mutual trust among ASEAN stakeholders and facilitating the decision-making process of the ASEAN platform.
