UAE: More countries join International Halal Certification Forum standardization initiative
2025-05-15
The credibility of the International Halal Accreditation Forum (IHAF), the world’s first halal certification network, has been further strengthened as the number of countries and international organizations participating in halal standardization initiatives continues to grow.
The Forum has been actively discussing ways to reduce trade barriers in the halal ecosystem in collaboration with 39 accreditation bodies representing 34 countries, and this number continues to grow.
Dr. Rehab Al Ameri, Secretary General of IHAF
Commenting on this growth, the Secretary General of IHAF said: “IHAF’s goal is to create an ecosystem where goods can be traded globally without barriers. This empowers traders in member countries, as all traded goods are guaranteed to be halal according to uniform standards. This uniformity is essential to ensure the continued prosperity of global halal trade and protect the integrity of the entire halal value chain. We therefore look forward to further partnerships and advocating for the harmonization of halal food standards worldwide.”
According to the 2019/2020 Global Halal Economic Status Report, four of the top five halal food exporting countries – Brazil, Australia, Sudan, and India – are IHAF members. Furthermore, the UAE, Brazil, Australia, Sudan, and Pakistan – global economic indicators for halal food – are among the top five of the ten countries considered IHAF members.
IHAF is also in the process of establishing technical cooperation agreements with different organizations and believes that standardized global halal certification is essential to easily determine which products are truly halal.
Current member countries of IHAF include: Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Russia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sudan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
