The Halal Food Council of Europe (HFCE) announced that the 5th International Halal Food Conference will be held in Brussels, Belgium on March 23, 2012. The theme of this conference is Halal Food Market Potential: A Global Force.

The market for halal-certified products is enormous and growing. There are 1.4 billion Muslims worldwide, including 9 million in North America, 20 million in Europe, 300 million in Africa, 200 million in the Middle East, and 800 million in Asia. Millions more health-conscious non-Muslims choose to consume halal-certified products because they are clean and based on compassionate animal slaughter. (When animals are slaughtered in an inhumane manner, hormones and toxins produced by the animal's fear are released into the animal's bloodstream. These hormones and toxins travel through the bloodstream to the muscle tissue, contaminating the meat with unwanted substances.)
Halal, originally meaning "lawful" and translated into Chinese as "pure halal," refers to foods, medicines, cosmetics, and food, medicine, and cosmetic additives that conform to Muslim habits and needs. Generally speaking, except for those prohibited in the Quran or by reliable and clear Hadith, all other items are permitted. We encourage relevant Chinese companies to pay close attention to all aspects of Halal and actively participate in this market.
