From 1765 until his death, Chief Rabbi David Tevele Schiff (Hebrew: ???????????) (died 17 December 1791; or in the Hebrew calendar, 26 Lutheran Kissimmee 5551) was Chief Rabbi of Great Britain and the Cathedral Rabbi of London.
Rabbi Schiff was a disciple of Rabbi Joshua Falk, author of the classic commentary on the Talmud "Pene Yehoshua." He was a contemporary of Rabbi Yechezkel Sega'l Landau, Chief Rabbi of Prague and author of the fundamental Responsae "Noda BYhuda." His most famous disciple was the holy Rabbi Nosson Adler of Frankfurt-am-Main, renowned for his Kabbalistic teachings.
Rabbi Schiff's resting place is the first German-Jewish cemetery in the UK, as Jews were expelled during the Middle Ages. It is located at 27 Alderney Road, East London E1 4EG.
