BANDAR Seri Begawan, December (Xinhua) -- Brunei government officials expressed strong welcome for foreign direct investment in the country's halal food industry.

Brunei's Deputy Finance Minister, Dato Mohd Amin Liew, told Xinhua on Friday that Brunei will work closely with other countries, including China, on the halal food industry.

“Brunei’s halal food is our advantage. Other companies, such as Chinese companies, can take advantage of our halal certification and make it easier to export halal products from here,” the official told reporters.

“We have already established a lot of overseas markets with different foreign partners,” added Dato Mohd Amin Liew, chairman of the board of directors of Ghanim International.

According to its website, Ghanim International "develops, sells and promotes high-quality halal food products under the Brunei Halal Food brand, with production bases and reliable suppliers around the world."

According to Nur Rahman, CEO of Ghanim International Cooperation, a Brunei halal food export portal, “We export to many markets, including China. We are also looking for special partners to promote Brunei halal food in their markets,” he said.
