The Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) said the halal industry does not want to lose out in the e-commerce sector.
PETALING JAYA: Halal Property Development Corp (HDC) is in talks with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to form a joint venture in a major move into the international halal market.
Jamil Bidin, president of Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), revealed that Alibaba is keen on several industries in Malaysia and he hopes that the halal industry will be one of them.
The country wants to enter the huge e-commerce industry, and Alibaba is the leader.
“The halal industry does not want to be left behind,” he said at a media briefing at the HDC Global Support Centre here today.
Jamil hopes that HDC's partnership with Alibaba will help promote the online sales of halal products.
He said the collaboration between the two entities would be a win-win.
Alibaba has infrastructure and presence in many countries, while the global halal market is worth RM8.9 trillion.
I'm sure many people will be keen to follow the trend.
Jamil also said that working together with Malaysia will enhance Alibaba’s brand, which is recognized as a leader in the halal industry in the country.
Alibaba is no stranger to Malaysia. In November, Alibaba founder and executive chairman Jack Ma was appointed as an advisor to Putrajaya's e-commerce arm.
