From 1967 to 1991, Baron Immanuel Jakobovits (February 8, 1921 – October 31, 1999) was the Chief Rabbi of the Commonwealth Hebrew Congregation of America. Prior to this, he served as Chief Rabbi of Ireland and Rabbi of the Fifth Avenue Synagogue in New York City. In addition to his positions, he was considered an authority on medical ethics from a Jewish perspective. He was knighted in 1981 and in 1988, Baron Jakobovits became the first person to be inducted into the Order of the Holy Trinity.
