Indonesia: YPHI encourages government to immediately issue BPJPH implementation rules

2025-05-15

Mina, Jakarta - The Halal Products Assurance Organization (BPJPH) has encountered many obstacles in achieving the full goals of halal certification without implementing the Presidential Regulation (PP) and PMA regulations.

In response, Yanis Musdja, head of the Indonesian Halal Products Foundation (YPHI), said the challenges facing the newly established body are complex as it will be dealing with industry players who do not want halal certification.

"The dispute is happening between the ministries and the regulations have not yet been announced," Yanis said at the Halal Lifestyle Exhibition and Conference (INHALEC) in Jakarta, Thursday (October 19).

According to him, pharmaceutical companies have visited the Ministry of Health and urged them not to apply halal certification to their medicines. According to Yanis, drugs are sold on the market because their halal status is questionable and some are even banned. Therefore, if drugs are automatically certified, it will be difficult for manufacturers to produce their medicines.

He added that such considerations are a source of controversy within the government, and therefore government oversight has not yet been linked to the BPJPH. In fact, the original goal was for the BPJPH to begin work in 2017.

“BPJPH was just established, almost a year late, due to many controversies,” he said.
