Malaysia and Indonesia to sign halal industry agreement in Jakarta

JakartaIndonesia's religious affairs ministry said Malaysia and Indonesia are expected toA memorandum of cooperation (MOC) was signed in June to encourage trade in the halal sector between the two countries.
Its Secretary General NizarNizar Ali said the ministry's Halal Products Assurance Bureau (BPJPH) and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) have been negotiating the MOC since mid-2022, with a draft finalised in January.
“The MOC’s draft has been finalised and any revisions will have to be discussed with BPJPH, Jakim and the director of the Malaysian Halal Council,” he said in a statement.
Nizar received an official visit from Jakim director-general Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff at his office last Thursday, where he was accompanied by Muhammad Naqzrul Azraf Mohd Nazarludin, religious adviser at the Malaysian Embassy.
Nizar said he hopes to win the support of Indonesian President Joko Widodo.The Indonesia-Malaysia Halal Memorandum of Understanding was signed during Widodo's official visit to Malaysia in June.
Hakimah added that she hopes the management of the halal industry in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore will be more systematic compared to other countries, including European nations.
at the same time,BPJPH cooperation coordinator Fertiana Santy said the MOC is highly anticipated by halal industry players.
“Mutual recognition of halal certificates between the two countries will also be implemented,” she added.
Malaysia and Indonesia are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries and was listed as one of the top 2022 halal exporters in the 2022 annual OIC Halal Economy Report.
