Algeria adopts new halal regulations

According to a statement issued by the Algerian government earlier today, all dairy products entering Algeria must be accompanied by a Halal certificate. This certificate must be issued byGreat Mosque of ParisThe halal certificate must be issued or endorsed by a certification body approved by the Grand Mosque of Paris. The new halal regulations take effect on June 14 and apply to goods that have been shipped or are in the process of being shipped. Goods that have not yet passed through Algerian customs will also be subject to the new requirements.
A market source commented: “We were surprised by the change in regulations; we have several cargoes going to Algeria that now require halal certification. It depends on how quickly the certification is issued. This is not only a problem for large tenders, but also for smaller tenders going into Algeria.”
