The first International Halal Initiative Conference was held in Dubai to harmonize reliable conformity assessment standards in the halal sector.
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the U.S. national center for standardization and a globally recognized standards and certification body, recently became a signatory to the International Halal Accreditation Forum (IHAF) International Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). IHAF hosted its first International Halal Initiative Conference in Dubai, aiming to harmonize reliable conformity assessment standards in the halal sector and establish multilateral cooperation agreements among its member organizations to promote global halal trade.
ANSI Senior Project Director Reinaldo Figueiredo, ANSI’s representative for product certification bodies, signed international agreements with the National Accreditation Commission for Certification Bodies, the Argentine Chamber of Commerce, the Mexican National Accreditation Board (MEXICO) of Argentina, Accredia, the Italian national accreditation body, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand.
Halal products and services include food and beverages, cosmetics and personal care, pharmaceuticals, clothing, logistics, finance, tourism and hotels, etc. From consumers, traders, manufacturers to governments, there is a high demand for Halal products from all walks of life. As the demand for products continues to grow, Halal certification bodies will ensure the security and transparency of the certification and verification of Halal products.
