Chiayi County Halal Certification Expands Internationally

2025-05-15

The Chiayi County Government's Department of Agriculture recently led seven businesses to Malaysia to participate in a food exhibition. Ying Chuan, a dried fruit producer, and Dongshi Cereals Cooperative, a peanut producer, were favored by many manufacturers because they had applied for Halal certification early on. The group's estimated order value could reach US$1.23 million. Ying Chuan's related market performance increased by 60% to 70% due to its Halal certification.

In order to expand the sales of the county's high-quality agricultural products to the Malaysian Halal market, the county government once again organized a delegation to participate in the Malaysia International Food Expo in late September. Based on the experience of the first exhibition four years ago, this year's results are even more fruitful. The estimated order amount is expected to be 100% more than four years ago. Such results are mostly due to Halal certification.

Yu Shunfeng of the Dongshi Grain Cooperative said that the main purpose of applying for the Halal certification authorization mark is to let Muslim consumers know that they can eat the product with peace of mind. For example, when they went to Malaysia this time, whether it was manufacturers or consumers, they would look for the certification mark as soon as they arrived at the Chiayi Products Center, which represents the local trust in this certification.

Yu Shunfeng pointed out that Halal certification requires strict adherence to the standards set by Islamic law regarding the ingredients of food ingredients, processing procedures, cleanliness and hygiene management, packaging, storage and transportation. For example, pork, alcohol or bloody processes cannot be used, and the production plant cannot be used to worship gods. Only after on-site evaluation and approval by the inspector can a company obtain a ticket to this emerging market.

Ying Chuan Company Specialist Jiang Xinjie also said that since applying for halal certification, the market in Malaysia and other places has grown significantly. Yu Zhaofeng is glad that he applied for the certification early, which successfully opened up the local market. He further plans to upgrade the Taiwan certification to international halal certification, relying on halal certification to expand his international presence.
