BPJPH says non-halal products must include non-halal information

2025-05-15
BPJPH, Indonesia's Halal Certification Assurance Organization, emphasizes that products derived from non-halal or non-halal materials must contain non-halal information.
"In principle, JPH regulations are intended to provide protection and convenience to the public, allowing them to be transparent about whether a product is halal or non-halal," said BPJPH Head Muhammad Aqil Irham in Jakarta, Monday, March 25, as quoted by Antara.
According to Aqil, the government will implement the halal certification obligation from October 18, 2024. BPJPH stressed that products derived from non-halal or non-halal materials are not subject to the halal certification obligation. "Non-halal products are not subject to the halal certification obligation," he said.
For example, liquor or pork products cannot be registered with a Halal certificate, which means they are excluded from the Halal certification obligation.
Aqil also explained that these products are not subject to halal certification obligations, so they can still be traded even though the halal certification obligations have begun in October 2024.
However, this is subject to the product having an explanation or clear picture that the product is made from or contains non-Halal elements. For example, products containing pork can provide this information by including an inscription or image of a pig in the packaging.
This is in compliance with Article 92 of Law No. 33 of 2014, which stipulates that commercial actors producing products derived from prohibited materials must include information about the prohibited materials. This prohibited information can be images, logos and/or texts included in the product packaging, certain parts of the product; and/or certain locations on the product.
