The 15th MABIMS, an unofficial meeting of ministers of halal affairs from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, was held in Singapore on November 21, 2012.

MABIMS member countries have unanimously agreed to jointly explore innovations with the ultimate goal of promoting development and progress in the region.

The Conference recognized the cooperation programmes implemented by the Member States in recognized strategic and specialized areas, the results of which have been achieved as follows:

a. The MABIMS Scholars Roundtable brings together scholars and experts to discuss common challenges and hot issues. MABIMS has reached a consensus that this conference will bring together experts from various religious denominations in its member countries. Through regular planning and discussion, MABIMS aims to develop an ethical framework that is both fundamentally consistent with the principles of Sharia and universally applicable across its member countries.

b. The Senior Officials' Workshop (SOM) also successfully raised awareness of the role of Muslim communities in development, particularly poverty alleviation. MABIMS member countries also reached a consensus on mutual assistance in poverty alleviation, such as sharing research findings. These are all measures taken to promote development.

In order to further strengthen and consolidate cooperation in this region, MABIMS has decided to launch a series of improvement measures to facilitate the realization of cooperation in specific strategic areas. MABIMS members unanimously agreed to establish technical committees in each area of cooperation. The committees that have been established or will be established are as follows:

a. Youth Development Technical Committee

b. MABIMS Regional Special Technical Committee for the Promotion of Halal

c. Educational Technology Committee

MABIMS also uses the digital office service to publish its work and collaborations in the region to date, in order to promote MABIMS's contribution to international affairs.

Gaza conflict

MABIMS countries share in the deep pain of the tragedy in Gaza. We deplore the conflict, which has claimed the lives of so many innocent people, including women and children. This conflict has jeopardized the livelihoods and property of Gazans. MABIMS urges all parties responsible for the conflict to cease all acts of aggression and violence that harm the local population. We also call on all stakeholders and political agents to take immediate action to end the conflict and restore calm to the region.

Muslims in MABIMS member countries share the pain of those facing the same humanitarian crisis as the people of Gaza. We pray to Allah, the Almighty, to bless those affected by this crisis. May they find strength and patience to overcome these difficult times, and may Allah guide them and bring peace back.
