The Trade and Industry Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) has identified at least three product categories that are currently “trending” among global consumers, offering new avenues of growth and expansion for Philippine exporters.

Agnes R. Legaspi, Assistant Director of EMB, said:Organic, Halal and Kosher foodsThree consumer products offer new opportunities for exporters whose products have been certified by certification bodies.

organic food

At the recent 2018 BSP Exporters Forum, Legaspi said:

Global 2013organic productsThe consumer market has reached $56.5 billion and continues to grow rapidly. High-income markets in Europe and North America, particularly the UK and the US, account for over 90% of global organic product consumption. Exporters can label their products organic and sell them at a premium. However, you must ensure that your certification is acceptable to the market you wish to export to. The world's best-selling organic products are dairy products and eggs.

Halal food

MuslimThe market is another potentially huge one for Filipino producers, who strive to become suppliers of halal-certified food.

The market for halal products and services is one of the fastest-growing consumer markets in the world, with the US$2.6 trillion industry projected to grow to US$10 trillion by 2030.

The total trade value of halal food accounts for 62% of the global halal market, estimated at US$632 billion. Other important halal products include cosmetics and personal care products, pharmaceuticals and health supplements.

Legaspi noted that halal food consumers are not just those from the Muslim community, but also non-Muslim consumers who are looking for healthy foods that adhere to strict Islamic dietary laws. Philippine exporters looking to enter this market "should make sure you are qualified to say that your products and services are halal certified."

Kosher food

at the same time,Kosher productsThe largest market remains the United States, with its large Jewish population, but demand is also strong in the European Union and Israel.

Data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade shows that since 2004, the kosher food market in the United States alone has exceeded 12 million consumers and has been growing at an annual rate of 10%-15%.

It is very important to ensure that the products you export are kosher certified. Kosher certification guarantees that the raw materials, processing and traceability are controlled according to Jewish rituals.
