2025-05-15
According to the report, the global halal food market has grown strongly over the past decade and is estimated to be worth US$667 million, accounting for nearly 20% of the global food industry.
The annual growth rate of halal food consumption is about 16%, according to the report, "Global Halal Industry Overview," published by Education Business Consulting and Nasdaq OMX Global Index in advance of the 2017 Gulf Food Industry Exhibition in Dubai.
The Gulf Food Industry Exhibition, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from October 31 to November 2, will provide an excellent opportunity for hundreds of local, regional and international exhibitors throughout the food industry supply chain. A total of 144 halal exhibitors will showcase their latest products and solutions in the ingredient sector.
The report by Educare Consulting and the Nasdaq OMX Global Index shows that the UAE has set the global benchmark for halal certification, while the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (Esma) has implemented legislation on halal product certification and control in recent years.
Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions and Events, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), said: “The global halal industry has seen remarkable growth in recent years, and the UAE has established itself as a leader in setting the highest standards. Influential manufacturers and experts in the halal food supply chain are increasingly seeing the benefits of participating in our show, the largest ingredient, processing, packaging and logistics exhibition in the Middle East. This platform will undoubtedly help the emirate achieve its goal of becoming the capital of the Islamic economy, as its halal product trade promotes the development of the Islamic economy.”
One unique halal-certified product on display comes from Egyptian exhibitor Kamena, which will showcase its seasoning mixes – which can be used to flavor chips, salads, popcorn, and more – in flavors including Mexican cheese, red chili, red lemon, kebab, and jalapeno.
Samy Anton, Regional Sales Manager at Kamena Products, said: "We believe this exhibition is one of the most important in the Middle East food industry and will help our company achieve its expansion strategy and increase its international customer base in the region. We have strong development capabilities and can develop seasonings that suit Middle Eastern tastes and preferences. We hope to connect with markets of interest such as Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait, as well as several African countries such as Sudan, Ethiopia, Libya, Algeria, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda."
