Malaysia: Beauty and wellness entrepreneurs urged to capitalize on demand for halal cosmetics
2025-05-15
Kuala Lumpur President Datuk Seri Najib Razak said:
The demand for halal cosmetics is growing, providing opportunities for local entrepreneurs in the beauty and wellness industry to compete in the market.
Halal cosmetics in Malaysia have been growing steadily since the 1980s, capturing a 10% to 20% share of the local cosmetics market, so entrepreneurs must strive to use halal products in cosmetics.
Previously, halal was primarily focused on food products, but now it is increasingly expanding to other products, including beauty products.
Furthermore, cosmetics are no longer exclusive to women, as men are also willing to spend on their appearance. Therefore, local entrepreneurs in the beauty and wellness industry should seize the opportunity to enter the market and expand their product range internationally.
His speech was read out by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, at a tea party with local beauty and wellness industry entrepreneurs.
Najib said cosmetics were one of the top five exports from the lifestyle industry, valued at RM1.25 billion last year.
Between 2011 and 2016, cosmetics exports were valued at RM12 billion.
Earlier, Erni Dekritawati Yuliana Buhari, CEO of New Beauty Centre Ltd, in her speech, asked the Prime Minister to hold a dialogue with local beauty and wellness entrepreneurs. “Maybe there could be a dialogue session similar to the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) so that we can discuss the future of local cosmetics,” she said.
